Brunswick, Maryland Auxiliary #1136
Maryland State President
What does it mean to you to be an Eagles member?
The Fraternal Order of Eagles Auxiliary has given me the opportunity to become a leader, to enhance my understanding of obligation, and to participate in the ritual teams. I have also improved my understanding of charities and humanitarian efforts.
My theme "Brighten up the WORLD by signing a New Member to the FOE" is the best explanation of what the Eagles mean to me. I have been a proud member of Auxiliary #1136 since 1981. I am blessed to have a loving family and a true Eagle family.
What has being an Eagles member done for you?
My family is a major part of the history of Brunswick #1136; both my grandfather and father were members. As a child, the Eagles played a big part in my life because we attended many activities at the aerie. A very special moment was when I was installed as Madam President and my mother presented me with my father's Eagle pins.
I have been married for 37 years to a wonderful and supportive husband, Roger, and we have a daughter, Michele. She is a fourth generation member of #1136 since her grandmother (my husband's mother) is a charter member.
Why do you feel being a member of the Eagles is important?
I have chosen Alzheimer's disease as my charity. It is close to my heart since I am employed by the Alzheimer's Association. Part of my responsibility is to help provide respite funds for individuals and family members affected by this devastating disease. I have developed a respite fund in memory of a dear friend and loyal Eagle member, Joyce Joiner.
My symbol is the candle because with Alzheimer's Disease, sometimes the light is on and sometimes it is off. My colors are Black and White; my flower is the yellow rose.
Why should others join the Eagles?
My goal for the year is 602 members. I know I have high expectations but we need to recruit new members and encourage delinquent members to re-enroll. They are the life of our organization.
When I ask someone to join the Eagles, I explain our charities, the memorial funds, our special events and the opportunities to make a difference. The Eagles provide the opportunity to meet new people, assist with fundraisers for charities, and enhance each individual's beliefs in God, Home and Country.
What are the social benefits of being an Eagles member?
Members can gain many social benefits by attending meetings, learning our rituals and participating in the special events our Auxiliary offers throughout the year. Our Aerie and Auxiliary have many social activities the whole family can enjoy together.
I encourage every member to live each day by the mission statement, believing in God, home and country, and being loyal and united in carrying out the charitable, humanitarian, patriotic and other efforts to which the Fraternal Order of Eagles is dedicated.
