What does it mean to you to be an Eagles member?
When I first joined the Eagles over 12 years ago, I didn't have any idea what I was joining. But after becoming involved with our district, zone and state functions, I finally understood what our motto "People Helping People" means. My involvement with the Eagles has allowed me to help those that I cannot help by myself because of finances. When a fundraiser is completed, my wife and I have the satisfaction of knowing that we can make a small difference in people's lives.
What has being an Eagles member done for you?
Belonging to the Eagles has provided me the opportunity to help others and become more involved in our community. I have also become more involved with the city administration and learned how our local aerie can help the city accomplish its goals by providing stun guns for police and automatic defibrillators for the senior center.
Why do you feel being a member of the Eagles is important?
It comes down to being a part of a larger organization whose members want to make things better for people. An example of this is a Bike-a thon we held last year that raised only about $900. The school principal we were helping with funding for playground equipment was ecstatic even though we thought we did not do as much as we could have done. This shows how a little fundraising goes along way. Our organization helps many people.
Why should others join the Eagles?
Members meet a lot of nice people that they may never have met if they were not Eagles members. There are so many activities and members enjoy the adult beverages. With today's busy schedules, people can invest a little time and accomplish great things in ways that would not have been possible if they had acted alone.
What are the social benefits of being an Eagles member?
As a group, we have a great time helping others and traveling to different aeries for the zone and district meetings or state and international conventions. The benefits are truly unbelievable as far as socializing and meeting new friends while enjoying a cocktail.
