In a unanimous decision by more than 700 voting Fraternal Order of Eagle delegates
from across the United States and Canada, the Eagles will partner with The University
of Iowa in a five year fundraising project that will culminate with The Fraternal
Order of Eagles Diabetes Research Center at The University of Iowa.
The Fraternal Order of Eagles Diabetes Research Center will be a dedicated center
for diabetes research within the Institute for Biomedical Discovery Building at
The University of Iowa. Money fundraised by the Fraternal Order of Eagles will go
directly to medical research.

Sally Mason became the 20th President of The University of Iowa in August 2007.
She holds a full professorship with tenure in the Department of Biological Sciences
of the UI College of Liberal Arts and Sciences.
Jean E. Robillard, M.D.
Vice President for Medical Affairs
Jean Robillard came to the UI in 2003 as Dean of the UI Carver College of Medicine.
He began his three-year appointment as Vice President for Medical Affairs in January
2007. As vice president for medical affairs, Dr. Robillard is charged with integrating
planning and operations for the University’s largest organization, UI Health Care,
which comprises University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics; the UI Carver College
of Medicine; and University of Iowa Physicians, the state’s largest multi-specialty
physician group practice.
Paul B. Rothman, M.D.

Prior to joining The University of Iowa in 2004, Paul Rothman was the Richard J.
Stock Professor of Medicine (Immunology) and Microbiology and chief of the pulmonary,
allergy, and critical care division at the Columbia University College of Physicians
and Surgeons in New York City.
Lynette L. Marshall, CFRE

Lynette Marshall came to the UI Foundation in August 2006. In her first year at
Iowa, she led the fundraising organization to a record performance, generating in
excess of $87 million in outright gifts from more than 68,000 contributors for people
and programs throughout The University of Iowa. She also has launched a number of
initiatives, including a program to engage more UI students in philanthropy and
volunteerism; efforts to involve more women in philanthropic leadership; and a staff
restructuring based on collaborative, donor-focused fundraising.

Michael Artman joined The University of Iowa in January 2005, after having served
as Professor of Pediatrics, Physiology and Pharmacology at New York University School
of Medicine and Director of Pediatric Cardiology at NYU Medical Center from 1994-2004.
Prior to that, he was on the faculty at the University of South Alabama College
of Medicine from 1984-1994.
Peter J. Mohler, Ph.D.

Peter Mohler is a cell biologist in the Division of Cardiovascular Medicine whose
research is focused on understanding the molecular mechanisms that underlie human
disease. Mohler’s work examines a group of “excitable” human cells critical for
physiological processes including insulin secretion by pancreatic beta cells, neuronal
communication, and cardiac automaticity and contraction. His laboratory has successfully
linked dysfunction in multiple cellular pathways to human diseases including sinus
node dysfunction, permanent neonatal diabetes, and fatal cardiac arrhythmias. Mohler’s
work has resulted in numerous papers, reviews and book chapters.
William I. Sivitz, M.D.

A faculty member at the UI since 1987, William Sivitz combines extensive experience
caring for patients with diabetes with well-established skills in basic and clinical
research. Sivitz’s research and clinical practice has focused on diabetes since
1978.
John B. Stokes, M.D.

John B. Stokes received his M.D. degree from Temple University in 1971 and completed
his residency and fellowship training at Washington University in St. Louis and
at the University of Texas Southwestern Medical School in Dallas. Between appointments
at these institutions, he was commissioned in the U.S. Public Health Service where
he was assigned to the National Heart, Lung, and Blood Institute. While there, he
was the first Coordinator of the National High Blood Pressure Education Program,
a prototype program for several chronic diseases such as hypercholesterolemia and
diabetes mellitus.
Eva Tsalikian, M.D.

Eva Tsalikian joined the University of Iowa faculty in 1983 and has directed the
pediatric endocrinology division since 1988. She has been Vice Chair for Clinical
Affairs of the Department of Pediatrics since 2005, and in 2006 she was elected
to the position of Chief of Staff at UI Hospitals and Clinics.

Michael Welsh joined the UI faculty in 1981, after receiving his M.D. from the UI
in 1974, completing his internship and residency in Internal Medicine here, and
training in pulmonary medicine and research at the University of California-San
Francisco and the University of Texas in Houston. In addition to his faculty and
administrative appointments, Welsh is also an Investigator of the Howard Hughes
Medical Institute.
Sheila J.F. Baldwin

Sheila Baldwin joined the UI Foundation staff in 1999. As Executive Director of
Development, she oversees the team that raises money for UI Children’s Hospital
and UI Department of Pediatrics through major gift and special event fundraising.
