Joining The Fraternal Order of Eagles opens you up to a vast world of programs and
activities that add value to your membership. From building and shaping the youth
of our communities to helping our brave men and women fighting overseas, the F.O.E.
works tirelessly each year to help make lives better.
Leading our communities starts with our youth. Each year, the Eagles offers programs
for children across the United States and Canada that help build strong faith and
values while encouraging creativity and originality.
God, Flag & Country
The annual God, Flag & Country Oratory Competition offers American and Canadian
children ages 10-15 the opportunity to write and deliver a three-minute speech centered
around God, Flag and/or Country for a chance to win up to $1,000.
Aeries and Auxiliaries host local competitions, with winners advancing to the State/Provincial
level and potentially the International Finals, held each Summer on the Saturday
prior to the Eagles’ International Convention at the site of that year’s festivities.
God, Flag & Country competitions are a cornerstone of The Fraternal Order of
Eagles and are often regarded as some of the most inspiring and uplifting events
of the year. Local competitions begin as early as February with stages continuing
throughout Spring dependent upon individual State/Provincial rules.
Children’s Art Contest
Each year, the F.O.E. holds the Children’s Art Contest, encouraging youth in grades
3-6 to use artistic merit to help convey a provided theme, building a sense of creativity
and civic pride.
Art is submitted from across the United States and Canada each Winter for a chance
to win a grand prize of $500. Local Aeries and Auxiliaries are encouraged to work
with local schools to promote the contest and serve as gathering points for entries,
which are then submitted to the F.O.E.’s International Headquarters.
The contest is open to all children, regardless of affiliation with the F.O.E. The
2013 contest winner was Emily Salwey of Rugby, N.D. Salwey, a sixth grader, painted
a picture of the Geographical Center of North America landmark, which is a point
of pride in her hometown.
The Children’s Day contest is held annually to encourage Aeries and Auxiliaries
to plan and hold a public event for children with appearances from local law enforcement
and other community leaders to provide safety education and various creative outlets
that promote a fun, safe learning environment.
Aeries and Auxiliaries participating in the past have set up activities such as
fire safety instruction, identification card creation, stranger danger courses,
general police safety tips, arts and crafts, school safety campaigns and more. Eagles
are encouraged to think outside the box to develop new and relevant ways to reach
children and leave a positive impact on their lives.
Each event is documented with details submitted to the F.O.E. International Headquarters
by organizers. The best event will receive a $3,000 grant from the F.O.E.’s Jimmy
Durante Children’s Fund to award to a local organization of their choosing. Events
can be held at any point from August 1-May 31 with official entry documents due
