Local Woman Named Grand Madam President of Million-Member

Moose Jaw, SK (July 28, 2009) —The Fraternal Order of Eagles officially installed Jean Kerr of Moose Jaw as Grand Madam President of the 1.1 million member Fraternal Order of Eagles (FOE) organization. Kerr was honored during the annual FOE International Grand Convention, held in Reno, NV in July.

“It is a great honor to serve as Grand Madam President for such a dedicated and important organization,” said Kerr. “I look forward to the upcoming year to raise awareness of the Eagles and to raise money for deserving charities and organizations.”

During her year-long term, Kerr will spend approximately 260 days traveling to FOE auxiliaries throughout the U.S. and Canada to increase membership, grow the number of established auxiliaries across both countries, build a stronger relationship between the aeries and auxiliaries and encourage members to become active for social change.

“I am especially excited to meet all of the members at the local aeries,” she said. “One of my primary focuses this year will be recruiting members who are enthusiastic about our charity work and want to get involved. I hope by spreading the news about the good work the Eagles do in the local communities we can grow our membership.”

As Grand Madam President, Kerr’s major initiative will be to encourage members to raise funds for her presidential charity, the FOE’s Memorial Foundation.

The Memorial Foundation supports children (including those legally adopted) of members who die while serving their country or at work. All Eagle members and their families are automatically protected by this unprecedented safety net. With the Memorial Foundation children of deceased members who die while serving their country or at work are able to attend college or vocational school with grants.

Kerr joined the Moose Jaw auxiliary #3395 in 1975 and has held several positions at the local, provincial and international levels, including Moose Jaw Auxiliary Secretary, Alberta/Saskatchewan Provincial Auxiliary President, Mountain Region President and Grand Madam Trustee.
